Hello and welcome to our May newsletter from The Woodbridge Vets.
I hope you are looking forward to the bank holiday weekend and are enjoying a wonderful start to the summer season. With longer days, warmer weather, and flowers now in full bloom, it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy some fresh air and adventures with your furry companions.

As we move further into spring, we’d also like to take this opportunity to share some important seasonal pet care advice, practice updates, and a special spotlight on our amazing veterinary nursing team during Veterinary Nurses Awareness Month.
Veterinary Nurses Awareness Month
May is Veterinary Nurses Awareness Month, making it the perfect opportunity to recognise and celebrate the incredible work carried out by our dedicated nursing team here at The Woodbridge Vets. Our veterinary nurses are highly trained, qualified professionals who are passionate about delivering the very highest standard of care to every patient who walks through our doors.
The veterinary nursing team at The Woodbridge Vets plays an essential role in the day-to-day running of the practice, contributing directly to the health, comfort, and wellbeing of your pets. No two days are ever the same for a veterinary nurse, and their role involves an extraordinary range of responsibilities. On any given day, they may be triaging emergencies, admitting patients for surgery, placing IV catheters, monitoring anaesthesia, taking blood samples, running diagnostic tests, performing x-rays or CT scans, preparing and administering medications, processing insurance claims, and supporting patients as they recover and return home
to their families.

Many people are surprised to learn that veterinary nurses can also perform certain minor surgical procedures and clinics. Much like nurses in human healthcare, they are true advocates for their patients: carefully monitoring them throughout treatment and quickly recognising even subtle changes in their condition. Their attention to detail, compassion, and clinical expertise help ensure every pet receives the best possible care at every stage
of their visit.
At The Woodbridge Vets, we simply could not do what we do without our incredible nursing team. Their kindness, dedication, professionalism, and unwavering support mean so much to our veterinary surgeons, our clients, and most importantly, our patients. We are extremely proud and grateful to have such a hardworking and compassionate team at the heart of our practice.
4 years at The Woodbridge Vets
As we reflect on the past four years at The Woodbridge Vets, we are incredibly proud of how far we have come as a practice and the continued trust our clients place in us. Our community has grown significantly, with 1,281 Pet Club clients and a total of 1,799 pets registered within The Woodbridge Pet Club, allowing us to support more families than ever before with preventive healthcare and ongoing support.
Over this period, our clinical team has delivered an outstanding level of care across all areas of veterinary medicine. We have carried out over 9,000 primary consultations and nearly 8,950 re-check appointments, alongside 322 second opinions, reflecting both new and returning clients who rely on our expertise. Preventive care has also remained a cornerstone of our work, with 2,961 nurse-led clinics (POCs) and 142 annual health checks (AHCs) helping to keep pets healthy at
every life stage.

Our commitment to accessible care has also extended beyond the practice walls, with 237 home visits ensuring we can support pets in the comfort of their own environment when needed.
In terms of surgical and procedural work, our team has continued to expand both capability and capacity. We have performed 888 dentals, 357 laparoscopic procedures, and supported advanced diagnostics with 1,083 ultrasounds, 630 x-rays, and an impressive 1,058 CT scans. These diagnostics have been instrumental in allowing us to provide faster, more accurate treatment plans for our patients.
We have also dispensed 1,574 written prescriptions, implanted 1,470 microchips, and cared for 85 hospitalised patients overnight, ensuring continuous monitoring and treatment when it matters most.
These figures represent far more than statistics: they reflect thousands of individual patients, each with their own story, and the dedication of a team committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate veterinary care every single day.
We are proud of what we have achieved together over the past four years and look forward to continuing to grow, innovate, and care for the pets of your community for many years to come.
Parasite Prevention
May is particularly important in veterinary care because it sits right in the heart of spring wellness season. After the colder months, pets are spending more time outdoors, routines tend to become more active, and exposure to seasonal risks increases: making it an ideal moment to focus on prevention rather than treatment.
This is the time of year when we commonly see a rise in issues such as flea and tick infestations, seasonal allergies, skin irritations, and gastrointestinal upsets linked to outdoor exploration. It’s also when pets begin to travel more with their families, whether that’s weekend walks, countryside adventures, or the start of summer holidays. All of this makes proactive healthcare especially important.

At The Woodbridge Vets, we use this season to encourage routine health checks, parasite prevention updates, weight and mobility assessments, and dental care planning before the busier summer months arrive. This is also your friendly reminder to collect your pet’s parasite prevention from the practice or to ensure your pet is up to date with their flea, tick, and worming treatment at home.
Staying on top of this protection is one of the simplest and most effective ways to keep pets healthy during the warmer months.
In short, spring wellness is about getting ahead of potential problems: ensuring pets are healthy, protected, and ready to enjoy the months ahead comfortably and safely.
