In this month’s newsletter, we’ll be sharing important updates from The Woodbridge Vets, including the latest news on the upcoming opening of The Colchester Vets, helpful advice on parasite protection and why regular treatments are essential, as well as highlighting microchipping awareness and the importance of keeping your pet’s details up to date.
Fleas & Ticks: Stay Protected This Summer
With warmer weather comes an increased risk of fleas and ticks, which can cause discomfort, skin problems, and potentially serious health issues for your pets. These pesky parasites are most active during the summer months and can lead to problems such as intense itching, infections, Lyme disease, and tapeworms.
The best way to keep your pet protected is with regular, vet-approved parasite prevention. Treatments are available as tablets or spot-on applications and are designed to help keep your pet safe throughout the year.
You can purchase parasite treatments directly from The Woodbridge Vets, but please make sure your pet has been seen by one of our vets before starting treatment, so we can recommend the most suitable option for their needs. If you’re a member of The Woodbridge Pet Club, your parasite treatment is already included as part of your plan - just one of the many benefits of being part of the club!
Microchipping
Recently, we've had a few stray pets handed into our care. Thankfully, some were reunited with their owners and families because they were microchipped, making it quick and easy to locate their owners.
Unfortunately, not every pet was microchipped. In those cases, we turned to the incredible power of our community. Thanks to social media platforms and the many kind people who shared our posts, we were able to reunite several lost pets with their worried families.
While we're so grateful for everyone's support, a microchip can make all the difference. It provides your pet with a permanent form of identification that can't be lost or removed like a collar. Please take a moment to check that your pet is microchipped and that your contact details are up to date. It could be the key to bringing them safely home if they ever go missing.
Please note: If you need to update the details linked to your pet's microchip, we are unable to do this at the practice.
In the UK, your pet's microchip details are held by the microchip company that your pet is registered with. For security and data protection reasons, only the registered owner can update their contact information directly with that company. Veterinary practices cannot access or change these records.
But we are more than happy to scan your pet's microchip to identify the microchip number and help you find out which company it is registered with. Once you know the company, you can contact them to update your details.
Keeping your contact information up to date is just as important as having your pet microchipped. If your pet ever goes missing, having the correct details linked to their microchip can make reuniting you much quicker and easier.
Update: The Colchester Vets
Some of you have been asking for updates on the progress of The Colchester Vets, and we’re excited to share that we’re getting closer and closer to our opening date! Kyle and Laurie have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to bring this new practice to life, and it’s fantastic to see everything coming together.
The Colchester Vets will be led by experienced vet Chris Goetschel and his long-time colleague Joanna Rodak-Smith, who bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and a shared commitment to providing kind, high-quality care for pets and their owners.
The purpose-built practice has been designed to create a modern, welcoming environment, with excellent facilities, advanced equipment, and a dedicated team ready to offer a wide range of veterinary services - from routine health checks and preventative care through to more complex procedures and holistic treatment options.
Located just seconds from the A12, The Colchester Vets will provide accessible, first-opinion veterinary care all under one roof for the local community.
