Autumn is here: September newsletter
Hello and welcome to our September Newsletter!
We hope you’re all keeping well and have enjoyed the last of the summer. As we head into autumn, we hope you and your pets are settling into the changing season and enjoying the cooler days and cosy evenings.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our wonderful clients for your continued support. It’s always a pleasure caring for your pets, and we’re so grateful to have you as part of The Woodbridge Vets family.
We hope you enjoy reading this month’s newsletter, and as always, thank you for being part of The Woodbridge Vets family.
Autumn weather - Awareness
As summer fades and the cooler, wetter days of autumn arrive, it’s important to consider how seasonal changes can affect our pets. Lower temperatures, rain and shorter daylight hours can all bring new challenges for dogs, cats and other companion animals.
Older pets, puppies, kittens and animals with existing health conditions may feel the cold more than others. Make sure they have a warm, dry place to rest and, where appropriate, consider a coat or extra bedding during colder weather. After wet walks, dry your pet thoroughly, paying particular attention to their paws.
Autumn also brings potential hazards outdoors. Fallen leaves can hide mushrooms, sharp objects or other dangers, while some seasonal plants and fungi can be toxic if eaten. Keep pets away from anything unfamiliar and contact your veterinary practice promptly if you are concerned that your pet has eaten something potentially harmful.

With shorter days, visibility is another consideration. Reflective collars, leads or clothing can help make pets more visible during early-morning and evening walks.
A few simple precautions can make a big difference, helping your pets stay safe, comfortable and healthy throughout the autumn months.
International Dog Day
At the end of August, we celebrated International Dog Day - a wonderful opportunity to recognise and honour the incredible role dogs play in our lives. From loyal companions and working dogs to service animals and rescue heroes, dogs bring so much love, loyalty and joy
to our everyday lives.
Originally founded in 2004 by animal advocate Colleen Paige, International Dog Day also aims to raise awareness of the importance of adoption and highlight the many dogs still waiting in shelters for their forever homes.
Whether your dog is a cheeky puppy, a wise old soul or a devoted working partner, the day was all about celebrating everything that makes our four-legged friends so special.
It was heartwarming to see so many of our clients getting involved and celebrating their wonderful dogs. Of course, our appreciation for them doesn’t stop at International Dog Day - let’s continue to show our dogs the love and care they deserve every single day.

To celebrate, we’ve included a photo of some of our lovely patients who have been seen here at The Woodbridge Vets. Thank you for allowing us to be part of their lives - we always love seeing our four-legged friends, whether they’re visiting us for their regular treatment, collecting medication, coming in for a procedure, or simply popping by to say hello.
Every visit is a pleasure, and we’re always delighted to see their happy faces and wagging tails!
GP-Plus Practice
You may have heard us describe The Woodbridge Vets as a GP-Plus practice, but what does that actually mean?
At heart, we are a first-opinion veterinary practice, providing the everyday care your pets need throughout their lives. What makes us “GP-Plus” is that, alongside this first-opinion care, we have invested in a wide range of facilities, equipment and clinical expertise that allows us to investigate and manage many more complex cases in-house.
Our team includes experienced vets with a range of clinical interests and qualifications, and we have access to advanced equipment including CT, endoscopy, laparoscopy, ultrasound and an in-house laboratory. This means that, where appropriate, we can carry out further investigations and provide treatment here at The Woodbridge Vets, rather than automatically needing to refer your pet elsewhere.

For our clients, this means you can continue to see a team who know you and your pet, while having access to a broader range of veterinary care under one roof.
Of course, there will always be situations where referral to a specialist centre is the right option, and we will always recommend this when it is in your pet’s best interests.
Our GP-Plus approach is about having the facilities, skills and experience to manage as much of your pet’s care as possible within our own practice, while knowing when additional specialist support is needed.
